Today was a travel day: our train left Lyon at 9:30 AM this morning, then we changed trains in Geneva, and then we arrived in Zurich at 3:00 PM. We then had a 25-minute ride on the tram to get dropped right next to our AirBnB, followed by some confusion as to how to actually get access to the flat, which cost us another 20 minutes. But, we got in, the flat is nice, and we got settled in (including a Lucy nap).
We then hopped back on a tram and took it down to the heart of (or one of the hearts of?) the city, getting off right on the north end of Lake Zurich, where we walked around a little bit (gorgeous day, lots of people out and about) and then ate an early dinner (we had not managed to get lunch while traveling). From there, we walked south on the eastern side of the lake for a while—far enough to get to the pavilion that Le Corbusier had designed (thanks, Atlas Obscura!)—before hopping back on the tram to ride back to into the city to do some further exploration.
We stopped for groceries before hopping a tram back out to our flat and calling it a night.
An interesting/memorable experience of the day:
Benton: The lack of a trash bin in the kitchen in the apartment—just a bag for trash on the floor (which the host confirmed was the case; it seems loosely related to how the Swiss manage their garbage)
Tim: The bees at dinner (and both Benton’s and Lucy’s inability to sit still when they’re flying around). Benton and I being intrigued with the escalator-that-goes-both-ways, and Lucy being, “Um… that’s not that amazing. Seen it.”
