This was largely a travel day, in that we had an 11:15 train (which didn’t leave until closer to 11:40) from Valencia to Barcelona. We had a slow-ish morning getting ready to leave, and then we arrived at the apartment in Barcelona 12 minutes before 3:00 and had to wait until 3:00 for the digital key to work to unlock the doors. The apartment is…underwhelming: a noisy A/C, some olive oil in a puddle on the kitchen counter, doors that stick, and a shower that seems to have a completely unsealed drain, which means that it leaks water all over the floor and is unusable.
Other than that, though, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?
We got settled in and then went out for a very late lunch (4:00 PM), which meant we wound up at a homestyle cooking hole in the wall that offered only a prix fixe menu (9.5 Euros), and the two courses were various large and somewhat heavy options/portions. But, it was good. It appeared to be entirely run by a husband-wife team, and we were the only patrons there (they closed at 5:00, so probably would have gone ahead and closed if we hadn’t walked in).
After that, we hit the grocery store for some apartment supplies and intended to return to the apartment, cool off for a few minutes, and then head to the Gothic District. “Cooling off” turned into Lucy and then Alana falling fast asleep, as well as Julie taking a bit of a nap, so we did not head back out until after 8:00 PM. That was a subway ride to the Gothic District, a little bit of walking around, dinner, and then a bus back to the apartment.
An interesting/memorable experience of the day:
Benton: The grilled sardines at dinner
Tim: Lucy discovering the water running out from the bathroom door and Benton jumping into action to pound on the door to get Alana to turn off the water. It was a fiasco, but everyone acted quickly!
