Today was a travel day, but, despite arising at 5:00 AM to a message that our cab had been canceled, and the day including a 3-hour flight (Dublin to Málaga) and an hour-long train ride (Málaga to Córdoba), we still managed to walk 20,000+ steps (which is a lot).
We had given ourselves plenty of buffer to get to the airport, so we had time to stand in a long line to grab a mediocre breakfast before our flight. We’d hoped to be able to store our bags in Málaga at the train station, but we arrived to find plenty of signage to where that was…but the service itself not available. Luckily, with a little sleuthing, we secured a locker at the bus depot next to the train station, after which we set out on foot for lunch and then a walk to Alcazaba of Málaga. Then, we took a meandering walk back to the train station that took us through pretty lively areas of the old city.
We then caught our train to Córdoba, and had a brief taxi ride to our AirBnB (it would have been a 17-minute walk but we were getting a little tight on timing to get to the rental before 8:00 PM, which was an expectation we’d set with the host).
After settling in and showers, we headed out for some close-in exploration of Córdoba and a late bite, and then back to crash—wrapping up penning this just after midnight local time (only 11:00 PM in Ireland!).
An interesting/memorable experience of the day:
Benton: Hastily boning up on Spanish phrases (“Oh…cerveza is ‘beer.’ You said ‘Si’ when the waiter asked.”)
Tim: the absolute differences between Ireland and Spain—the weather (including the humidity—shade + breeze + heat…still pretty comfortable in Córdoba), the architecture, the “where people hang out for meals” (in a pub with live music vs. on the streets late at night)
